There's forty miles to go:
But each step feels that far...
I am cold, I am tired -
Must we wander so far?
When I went to Elizabeth
those were sunny days,
I felt young and carefree
Now the burden: it weighs
Heavily on my body
Each muscle seems to ache
I am cold, I am tired -
Why did we leave it so late?
And the donkey, you sit on
the poor thing does moan
with our bags and you on it
It does nothing but groan:
which is driving me crazy on the dark, lonely road
I am cold, I am tired -
And you are quite old!
I love God above all others
I've done as I was told
by the angel,
So glorious
it was like the stories of old:
But I wonder the wisdom
of us 'two' right now
I am cold, I am tired -
And I am wondering how?
Much longer this journey will be
Are we nearly there yet?
You see;
I think the baby is coming
Don't think we have long left
Before His arrival...
Our Son
who we'll call
Jesus, Emmanuel
God's Son
His Gift to us all!
